The Week of May 20

Vocabulary:triangle, circle, hexagon, pentagon, trapezoid, square

This week  we will learn to decompose combined shapes into shapes.Students will use pattern blocks to explore both composing and decomposing of shapes. Students will explore more about the attributes of two-dimensional shapes. We will draw lines to decompose shapes and learn that each line will be a  side in the new shapes we create.

 This week  we will combine two shapes to form a new shapes.We will use use triangles and rhombuses to build trapezoids and hexagon.We will use pattern blocks and shapes cutouts, combine them and make new shapes.

Vocabulary:3 dimensional, cone, cube, sphere, rectangular prism,cylinder

 This week  we will  start a new chapter about two dimensional shapes. Students will identify and distinguish sort two  dimensional shapes and discuss their names, attributes and the differences.Students will explore the number of sides and vertices of the polygons, hexagon and trapezoid.We will discuss the 2d shapes that we could see around us.They will learn that a vertex feels like a point and the sides will be straight.

 This week  we will  start a new chapter about three dimensional shapes. Students will sort two and three dimensional shapes and discuss their names, attributes and the differences. We will work together to put two three dimensional shapes together and build a new shape and will discuss how it looks..Complete work sheets.

Vocabulary:picture graph,bar graph, Tally marks

 This week  we will  practice to make a tally chart and interpret data from it. Students will  also learn how to convert information from a tally chart to a bar graph. we will discuss our favorite ice cream flavors and use tally mark for our choices. Complete work sheets.

 This week  we will  review time to the hour and half hour. We will start a new chapter on representing data using picture graph.We will make a picture graph with symbols that represent and interprets information..We will learn that a picture graph uses pictures to represent data and  the label shows what it is representing.We will practice to read data from a picture graph.

Vocabulary:hour hand, minute hand, hour, half hour

 This week  we will  be work to tell times to the hour and half hour using analog and digital clocks. We will practice with our practice clocks. Students will learn how the hour hand takes more time to move than the minute hand. Students will use the hour hand to draw and write times on analog and digital clocks.
