The Week of December 17

This week  the students will continue to  practice to recall addition facts and subtraction facts.Students develop reasoning skills by solving word problems. Students will also learn to add and subtract in different ways to make the same number.Students will develop the understanding of equality that the equal sign tells the quantities on both side are equivalent in value.complete worksheets and student practice book w/s. 

Students will review Chapter 5 concepts and take a test.

This week  the students will continue to  practice to recall addition facts and subtraction facts to add and subtract numbers within 20.Students will use the related facts concepts learned to figure out the missing number in the addition and subtraction sentence
Students will use cube trains to model and write related facts sentence. complete worksheets and student practice book w/s.

The Week of November 26

This week  the students will practice use learned addition facts to solve related subtraction facts. They will learn to make ten as a strategy to subtract. Students will use ten frames,cubes and red and yellow  counters to add up to subtract.Students will also  use the acting out strategy to solve subtraction problems.

The Week of November 12

Grade 1 Math

This week  the students will practice adding 3 numbers word problems and take a chapter test.Students will learn and practice counting back strategy to subtract numbers. This helps them to build mental math skills.

The Week of October 29

Grade 1 Math

This week  the students will be introduced with the ten frame to keep track when counting 10 or more objects and to reinforce the idea of grouping 10 and extras.Students will practice to use ten frame and counters to add.We will also practice to add three addends, practice to analyze the addends to determine which two might make sense to add together first. 

The week of October 22

Grade 1 Math

Vocabulary words: count on, doubles,
 Students will review that changing the order of the addends does not change the sum for addition.Students will also practice to use the count on strategy to add numbers. We will also practice counting doubles chart and learn that doubles facts can help quick recall of sums.

This week the students will practice subtracting zero, they also subtract all to find a difference of zero.Students will learn that in a subtraction equation, when the starting number and the number taken away are the same, the difference is always zero. Students will also be introduced with subtraction in the vertical format. Children will learn  the vertical format and proper place value alignment that will help them to compute correctly.

This week students  will continue to work on solving subtraction problems.Students will review the vocabulary compare, fewer, more.Students will learn to use pictures to compare and subtract.We will practice with counters, draw lines or use  pictures to lineup and compare more or fewer objects in a problem.Complete practice worksheets.

The week of October 1

Grade 1 Math

This week students  will learn that  subtraction  means taking from and use cubes to model subtraction stories. We will learn to use pictures and understand the concept of taking from.Students will understand that the objects in   pictures represent the whole and part  moving away is the part taken away from the group. Use tools such as, paper pencil, connecting cubes, counters and  pictures to visualize, model and work on taking away subtraction problems.

The week of September 24

Grade 1 Math

This week students will use tools such as connecting cubes counters and drawings to visualize addition equations and the relationship between numbers. Children will use red and blue cubes to show different ways to make numbers up to 10.
We will also learn that addition can be written "across" and "up and down".Students will work on solving  addition problems writing both vertically and horizontally.
