The Week of October 29

Grade 1 Math

This week  the students will be introduced with the ten frame to keep track when counting 10 or more objects and to reinforce the idea of grouping 10 and extras.Students will practice to use ten frame and counters to add.We will also practice to add three addends, practice to analyze the addends to determine which two might make sense to add together first.

Grade 1 Math


Vocabulary words: count on, doubles,
 Students will review that changing the order of the addends does not change the sum for addition.Students will also practice to use the count on strategy to add numbers. We will also practice counting doubles chart and learn that doubles facts can help quick recall of sums.

Vocabulary words: compare, fewer, more
This week the students will practice subtracting zero, they also subtract all to find a difference of zero.Students will learn that in a subtraction equation, when the starting number and the number taken away are the same, the difference is always zero. Students will also be introduced with subtraction in the vertical format. Children will learn  the vertical format and proper place value alignment that will help them to compute correctly.

This week students  will continue to work on solving subtraction problems.Students will review the vocabulary compare, fewer, more.Students will learn to use pictures to compare and subtract.We will practice with counters, draw lines or use  pictures to lineup and compare more or fewer objects in a problem.Complete practice worksheets.

Grade 1 Math

This week students  will learn that  subtraction  means taking from and use cubes to model subtraction stories. We will learn to use pictures and understand the concept of taking from.Students will understand that the objects in   pictures represent the whole and part  moving away is the part taken away from the group. Use tools such as, paper pencil, connecting cubes, counters and  pictures to visualize, model and work on taking away subtraction problems.
