The Week of January 30th

Grade 2 L/A

Vocabulary words: millions, choices, drift, simple, weaker, wrapped, disgusting, decide
Spelling words: I'm, don't, isn't, can't, we'll, it's, smaller, strongest, louder, tallest
High Frequency words: because, better, go, me, old, really, right, they, was, you

Students will practice to form and use contractions.. We will read the informational text Jellies and learn  about the different kids of Jellies.. Students learn to form past tense verbs by adding -ed. We will review  kinds of nouns.

Math:
This week we will continue learning the values of different coins, pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. Students will learn a counting sequence that remains consistent that counting coins of greatest value to coins of least value. We will practice counting coins in class.

Spelling words: baked, hiding, standing, asked, saved, shaking,wanted,shining

Students will practice to add -ed and -ing endings to the base word. We will  revisit the Story How Chipmunk Got His Stripes and discuss the actions of each characters. Students will work on Synonym words. We will review  kinds of nouns.

Math:
This week we will start a new chapter on Time and Money. Students will  learn to find the total value of a group of dimes, nickels, and pennies. Students will learn to add the value of dimes by counting by 10, nickels by skip  counting by 5 and pennies by counting by 1's.

Spelling words: liked, using, riding, chased, spilled, making, closed, hoping

Students will practice to add -ed and -ing endings to the base word. We will read the Story How Chipmunk Got His Stripes and answer the essential questions  on each page.We will also look at the illustrations how it is helping to understand the characters in the story.
Students will work with words with CV Syllable pattern.

Math:
This week we will continue to practice 2 digit addition word problems. Students will also learn to compute sums of three digit numbers using the standard algorithm.To add the digits , students may choose to start at the top of the column and add straight down.

The Week of January  9, 2017

Spelling words: shine, chase, white, match, these, push, while, thin

This week we will continue practice  to spell and write words with digraphs, wh, ph, th, sh, ch.
We will read the lesson Super Storms and discuss the main idea and supporting details in the lesson.
Students will practice blend and decode regularly spelled base words with endings -s, -ed and -ing. We will identify action verbs in sentences.


Math:
This week we will continue working on  2 digit addition with  regrouping. Students will rewrite the horizontal addition problems vertically in the standard algorithm format and also use bar models to solve addition word problems.

Language Arts Grade 2

This week we will  work on  the sound/ spellings for words with double consonants and ck .We will review plural nouns as nouns for special, people, place and things Students will take turns to read the  realistic fiction The Ugly Vegetables and   answer essential question on each page  while we read.We will
 learn to use information from text and pictures to draw conclusions. Review complete sentences.

Math Grade 2 

This week students will learn to write repeated addition sentences about a group of objects arranged in multiple rows of equal numbers of objects.Students will use connecting cubes to make arrays.

This week we will  work on  spelling/ sounds correspondence of  words with long o, u, e vowel   sounds. We will nouns.Students will take turns to read the humorous fiction   Diary Of  a  Spider and answer the essential question on each page  while we read.We will also try to find examples from the story where the author  makes the character Spider act and speak like a person.

Wednesday: Write the words three times
Thursday: study spelling words
Friday: spelling test
Home work is due the next day.

Math Grade 2

This week we will work on finding the number patterns by counting by tens and hundreds for 3 digit numbers. We will also use the < > and = to  compare three digit numbers.

Math Grade 2

This week we will start a new chapter on numbers to 1000.Students are introduced to the concept of one hundred as being composed of 10 tens.Students will use base ten cubes to make 10 groups of 10 items each.We will also practice to write three digit numbers with place values.
Home work is due the next day.
