The Week of April 16, 2018

Group 1
Spelling words: leap, mean, peach, bee, leaf, teach, deep, sleep
Vocabulary word:about, by, car, could, don't, maybe, sure, there

Practice to blend and decode words with e, ee,ea e_e. Read Pop's Take A  Trip and answer the questions in write in reader.
Discuss about the Different way to travel. .Read the fantasy The Big Trip and compare the characters in the story.
Group 2
Spelling words::horn, story, fork, score, corn, morning, shore, short, tore, forget, report, before
Vocabulary Words:depended, sore, sprang, studied, gazing, hero, exercise, overlooked
Students will learn that the letters o and r together will stand for the /or/ sound in the beginning,or middle of a word.
Also the letters ore stand for the /or/ sounds at the end of a word.

Practice to decode and write words with /or/ sound.
Discuss who a hero is and what heroes do. Learn that fantasy is a story that could not happen in real life. read the fantasy Dex: The heart of  A hero and discuss what makes someone a Hero.

Practice to use commas in series of nouns and verbs.

Group 3-

Spelling words:swimming, dropping, tapping, invited, changing, joking, loved, gripped,tasted, stared bonus: freezing, scared
Vocabulary words:prairie, slick, fetch, clattered, sniff, rough, batted, thumped, buzzing, rustle
Students will learn that when a base word ends with e, the e is dropped before adding -ed and -ing. And when a base word ends with a vowel and a consonant the consonant is doubled before adding -ed or -ing.( shop, shopped, shopping)

Practice words with -ed and -ing endings.

Practice the meanings of vocabulary words by making flash cards.Discuss the life of pioneer people, the hardships that they had to face to settle in west. Students will take turns to read the Historical fiction Sarah, plain and Tall and discuss the essential questions while we read.Learn that adverbs are words that describe  a verb, telling, when, where and how something happens. Adverb can also used to compare actions which is called comparative adverbs..
