The week of September 24
Grade 1 Math
This week students will use tools such as connecting cubes counters and drawings to visualize addition equations and the relationship between numbers. Children will use red and blue cubes to show different ways to make numbers up to 10.
We will also learn that addition can be written "across" and "up and down".Students will work on solving addition problems writing both vertically and horizontally.
The week of September 17
Grade 1 Math
This week students will learn that when a number is added to zero, the sum is always that number. Children will use manipulative, pictures and symbols to work on addition problems with zero. We will also learn about the commutative property of addition that the order of the addends does not affect the sum.students can use cubes to model numbers and compare the sum.Model cube trains using two different colors and turn the train around so that the cubes appear in different order, students learn the concept that changing the order of the addends does not change the sum. We will complete worksheet in class.
